On May 29, in the educational and health-improving sports complex of the Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies, an open handball blitz tournament among girls born in 2004-2006 “Rector’s Cup” was held!

Holding tournaments in which graduates of general education and children and youth sports schools compete with students has already become a good tradition in our academy. A distinctive feature of these tournaments is that there are no losers – there are only participants and winners. And each participant of the “Rector’s Cup” does not go unnoticed.

Handball sounds in English like handball from hand – hand and ball – ball. It is a team game sport, the goal in which is to throw as many goals as possible into the opponent’s goal. Unlike football, the ball is thrown by hand.

Handball is a specific power type. It is necessary not only to throw by force, it is necessary to work with muscles, with the whole arm and shoulders. Here you need to forcefully – to go on a throw with force, you need to run with force, play defense with force.

The Odessa Region Handball Federation, which until 2021 was headed by a graduate of the Odessa Technological Institute of the Refrigeration Industry Sergey Rafailovich Grinevetskiy, widely promotes this fast-paced sport: they published a book on the history of Odessa handball, created the website of the Odessa Region Handball Federation, together with the city began to hold handball sports competitions among schools. A significant result is the emergence of Odessa handball, after oblivion, back to the high professional arena.

Therefore, along with the main objectives of the “Rector’s Cup” handball blitz tournament – attracting students and schoolchildren to a healthy lifestyle and systematic sports, as well as getting to know our academy, its specialties, traditions, sports achievements, the task was to support the development of student handball in Odessa.

To participate in the blitz tournament, teams of children and youth sports schools of the cities were invited: Vinnitsa, Khmelnitsky, Krivoy Rog, Nikolaev, Shabo, Odessa. On May 29, the rivals of the ONAPT women’s national team were: the support center “Shabsk institution of general secondary education of I-III levels”, the handball club “Nika” from the city of Nikolaev, the combined team of the children’s and youth sports school № 5 Odessa. The fight was going to be tough, because all the invited teams were winners or prize-winners of the regional and Ukrainian championships.

But our girls were on top, winning all the games! According to the results of the competition, the ONAFT team took the 1st place. The Rector’s Cup remains at the academy!

The winners are: Marina Mezentseva, Anastasia Rozdaibeda, Irina Pavlova (Faculty of Management, Marketing and Logistics), Elizaveta Mikhailova (Faculty of Wine Technology and Tourism Business), Daria Sukhinova (Faculty of Grain and Grain Business Technology), Stepanenko Anastasia (Faculty of Technology and Commodity Science of Food Products and Food Business), Pokhlebina Nadezhda (graduate student), Balan Bella, Soroka Christina, Vishnevskaya Angelina, Kalet Anastasia (students of the College of Oil and Gas Technologies, Engineering and Service Infrastructure ONAFT). Team coach – senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports Pavlyuk Oksana Vasilievna.

The honored guest of the tournament was the Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine, Honored Coach of Ukraine – Zadorozhnaya Lyudmila Ivanovna, who brought up more than one generation of handball players. She congratulated all the participants in the competition and awarded the winners and prize-winners of the competition with certificates and medals. Exclusive medals for awarding – a delicious gingerbread covered with glaze, on which a handball player is painted.

We would like to wish all the participants of the competition sports passion and brilliant victories! And we hope that this or next year our guests, as students of the Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies, will host the “Rector’s Cup” tournament.
